Todd Boehly has found player ‘tailor-made’ to be Graham Potter’s first Chelsea signing
Chelsea transfer news: Todd Boehly is reportedly on the brink of making Christopher Nkunku his ninth Chelsea signing with the RB Leipzig star targeted for a move next summer.

RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku dazzled in the Champions League this week to showcase exactly why Chelsea want to sign him. Celtic were his latest prey as the Scottish champions lost 3-1 at the Red Bull Arena.

Nkunku scored the opener, dinking a cool finish over the hapless Joe Hart to bag his eighth goal of the campaign. Just 48 hours earlier, The Athletic reported that he will become Todd Boehly’s ninth signing as Blues owner. The 24-year-old has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Blues ahead of a proposed move for the 2023/24 season, understands.

Billionaire Chelsea owner Boehly has bulldozed into English football since fronting a successful bid to take over the club in May. Any fears that Chelsea will no longer compete with Europe’s elite following Roman Abramovich’s exit were quickly quashed as almost £300million was spent in the summer.

Could Nkunku be the next statement signing made by the new Blues hierarchy? profiled the Leipzig man to analyse what supporters can expect should he arrive at Stamford Bridge in January…

Born in Lagny-Sur-Marne, a Parisian suburb, Nkunku was picked up by non-league club Fontainebleau as a 12-year-old in 2009. After quickly gaining a reputation, Lens, Le Harve and Monaco rejected the youngster due to his slender build.

However, local club Paris Saint-Germain – then emerging as a European powerhouse – took a punt on Nkunku three years later. National scouts soon became aware of the explosive midfielder, with the now 24-year-old representing France and every level since under-16.

PSG’s lust for superstar names blocked his first-team opportunities and, in 2019, he made the switch to Leipzig for €13million. A recent contract extension ties him to the Bundesliga outfit until 2026, meaning Chelsea would have to stump up a sizable fee.

Despite not playing a key role, Nkunku has three Ligue 1 and two French Cup medals from his time with PSG. He did make 29 appearances in all competitions across 2018-19 which saw him catch Leipzig’s eye.
