BREAKING: New Chelsea signing to fly in this week to start training with Graham Potter’s squad
New Chelsea goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina will fly to London on Wednesday and begin a short training stint with the Blues, according to reports. The American signed for Chelsea in August from Chicago Fire but was immediately loaned back to the MLS side for the remainder of 2022.
Fire have now played their final match of the regular season, drawing 1-1 at home to New England Revolution on Sunday. Slonina did not play and hasn’t featured since September 18 after picking up a head injury late last month.
Chelsea signed the 18-year-old in early August for a fee of up to £12million. But now he is set to train with his new team for the first time.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims Slonina will be in England for a couple of weeks before travelling back to the USA for a training camp ahead of the World Cup. Romano tweeted: “New face @ Cobham.
“Gabriel Slonina will fly to London on Wednesday and join Chelsea for the following 13 days, as MLS regular season is over. #CFC
Edouard Mendy has returned to full fitness but Kepa has kept his place in the starting XI in both the Champions League and Premier League. Slonina has already endeared himself to Chelsea supporters by declaring he had joined the best team in London.
He said in August: “Honoured to join such a massive club with so much history. It’s a privilege to wear the badge of the best side in London.
“Thank you to all the fans for the warm welcome. Can’t wait to get started.
“Thank you to everyone at the club for making a childhood dream come true & thank you to the fans for an amazing warm welcome. The hard work starts now. #ThePrideOfLondon.”
