Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona have reportedly joined Chelsea in the race to secure services of Arsen Zakharyan during the winter transfer window.
The 19-year-old Russian midfielder has established himself as one of the brightest young prospects in Europe after an impressive 2021-22 season which saw him to found back of the net nine times and create nine more in 34 games across all competitions, as well as claiming four caps for Russia.
The Dynamo Moscow playmaker was set to move to the West London club during the summer transfer window, however, western sanctions on Russia in light of the latter’s military invasion of Ukraine earlier this year prevented the Blues new owner Todd Boehly from transferring the necessary funds to finalise any deal.
Russian midfielder has since admitted that he was keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, and the Blues are expected to revive their interest in the starlet when the transfer window will be re-opened in January.
However, Spanish outlet Fichajes reports that Barca and Real are ready to rivals Chelsea for his signature.
Chelsea’s interest in Zakharyan signifies Boehly’s grand spending and ambition since succeeding Roman Abramovich as the club’s owner earlier this year, having spent over £250m during the summer transfer window.
However, they have now sacked their head-coach Thomas Tuchel and it is expected to see whether the new manager would be interested to lure Russian midfielder at the club.
