I’ve started well’, Chelsea defender suggests he’s now feeling more confident again under new Boss Graham Potter

Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah suggests he’s now feeling more confident after being recalled to the starting line-up by Graham Potter.

Chalobah made a surprise breakthrough to the Blues first team last season, playing 30 games across all competitions. Therefore, Thomas Tuchel deserves huge credit for the 23-year-old’s development, who’s joined the long list of big academy successes from Cobham.

However, the defender made a slow start to this season after slipping down the pecking order.

A mini resurgence has seen the centre-back make three of his four appearances this season since Potter took charge as the new head coach at Stamford Bridge.

He’s played in both wins against AC Milan in the Champions League group stages, as well as last weekend’s Premier League victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Trevoh Chalobah more confident
Chalobah has shared he’s feeling in a good mood ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Aston Villa this Sunday in the league.

It sounds like Potter’s decision to recall him to the XI has been the lift he’s needed.

“Obviously it’s good to be playing every game,” Chalobah said.

“The more games you play, the more confidence you get. I’ve started well, and I will look to be consistent and carry on.”

It’s a remarkable statistic that Chelsea are 28 games unbeaten in the matches Chalobah has started in his senior Blues career.

He’s actually looked really solid in the past week given his lack of football this season, so allowing him to continue his momentum this weekend against Villa feels a bit of a no-brainer,

The injury to Wesley Fofana has definitely opened a spot in the Chelsea backline, so it’s great to see Chalobah seizing this chance with both hands.

He’s still a young defender improving his game and ironing out little errors, but overall he’s a really solid figure at the back.

His pace, athleticism and calmness make him a great option for Potter to use.
