Report: Chelsea boss Potter prefers three attacking targets than Cristiano Ronaldo

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has three attackers ahead of Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo on his transfer wishlist, according to CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs.

Ronaldo’s current situation at Manchester United, which led to his missing out on Saturday’s trip to Stamford Bridge, has sparked speculations over a potential January exit.

Chelsea, whose co-owner and chairman Todd Boehly was reportedly interested in signing the 37-year-old last summer, have unsurprisingly been linked as a possible destination for the superstar.

However, Jacobs claims that Ronaldo remains an unlikely January target for Chelsea.

Chelsea’s Potter prefers three other attackers than Ronaldo
The journalist mentioned that while Boehly asked former Blues manager Thomas Tuchel to consider Ronaldo, in which the German was not interested, nothing has progressed since.

Boehly still reportedly sees the appeals of signing the Portugal international, but he is not expected to make a move for Ronaldo and would only do so if Potter agreed.

As it stands, Jacobs explained, Chelsea’s priority is in midfield.

Even among attackers, Potter is said to have a few other attacking targets in mind ahead of Ronaldo, including AC Milan’s Rafael Leao, Lille’s Jonathan David, and Brentford’s Ivan Toney.

They [Ronaldo and his agent Mendes] are less confident in Chelsea materialising even on a short-term deal,” Jacobs added.

“Ronaldo would also have to be convinced he’d play often enough, or he could end up in the same position as at Manchester United currently.

“What Mendes is hoping for, though, is Boehly staying on as sporting director through January & exerting more of a personal say, especially with extra time to assess the market.

“But Chelsea sources maintain Ronaldo would never be signed without ‘100% buy-in’ from Potter.”
