Chelsea have both Ajax’s Edson Alvarez and Dinamo Moscow’s Arsen Zakharyan “in the sights” ahead of the January transfer window, according to Calciomercato.com.
The Blues reportedly tabled a €50m (£43m) bid for Alvarez before the transfer window closed last month, but the offer was rejected by Ajax.
In Zakharyan’s case, the reasons for his deal collapsing in the summer were slightly more complicated. The attacking midfielder has a €15m (£13m) release clause but sanctions on Russia meant a deal to secure his services got caught up in red tape.
There have been suggestions that the player may switch nationality to Armenia in order to get around any issues but those reports have not been substantiated.
When it comes to Alvarez, respected journalist Nizaar Kinsella has named the Mexican as one of three midfielders that Chelsea are targeting so there is a very real possibility that another offer will be submitted in the New Year.
