Chelsea fc are reportedly set to make signing which will make Chelsea genuine title contenders

Reports have claimed that Chelsea are close to finalising a move to sign Christopher Nkunku.

The news comes after a summer in which they held a secret medical for the Frenchman, in an attempt to snap him up before any other big team does.

On Tuesday, the Blues showed glimpses of the best football seen under Graham Potter in the 2-1 victory over RB Salzburg in the Champions League.

Particularly in the first half, some lovely football helped Chelsea dominate proceedings, with them surely feeling at half-time like they should have been further than one goal ahead.

They created a number of big chances as a result of some intricate play. However, they continued to run into the same problem.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had arguably the two greatest chances, although he was denied both times by an inspired Salzburg goalkeeper.

Chelsea title contenders with Nkunku
It is not the first time this season already that the former Barcelona and Arsenal man’s finishing has come into question.

He also cut a fairly anonymous figure in consecutive draws in the Premier League. This has led to questions over whether he can lead the line for a team with ambitions as high as Chelsea’s.

Gabby Agbonlahor claimed after the Blues’ win that they were just missing a striker with a cutting edge, and according to the reports they may be about to sign one in Nkunku.

Over the last 18 months or so, the 24-year-old has become a real weapon in front of goal, after moving forward from more of a midfield role.

He averaged more than a goal involvement a game last season, including star performances in both the Champions League and Europa League.

If Todd Boehly can get the deal over the line, the Blues will certainly be pushing the likes of Manchester City at the top of the table.
