Report: Potter wants Chelsea to sign PL star he thinks is ‘fantastic, but he would cost more than Cucurella

Chelsea are reportedly among the clubs interested in Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.

Caicedo, 20, has made quite the impact in the Premier League during his brief time at the Amex Stadium.

The Ecuador international is an all-action central midfielder that possesses great strength, stamina and quality on the ball.

Despite his youth, he’s looking a real force in the centre of the park this season.

It’s something Chelsea found out on Saturday afternoon during a 4-1 defeat to Brighton, with Caicedo one of several players for the home side to impress.

According to The Mirror, Brighton would actually be prepared to cash in on Caicedo for a mouth-watering £85million.

It is understood that Chelsea and Newcastle United are both keen on the South American youngster. Liverpool and Manchester United could try sign him, too.

The report adds that Chelsea boss Potter, who coached Caicedo at Brighton, is plotting a reunion at Stamford Bridge.

It cost a whopping £60million to bring Marc Cucurella from Brighton to the Bridge during the recent summer transfer window, but it would cost even more to raid them yet again for another player.

Caicedo is clearly a player well known to Chelsea’s coaching staff. Incidentally, Potter described the midfielder enforcer as “fantastic” earlier this year.

It’s worth noting that Brighton’s midfielder actually admitted in a recent interview he wouldn’t be able to turn down a move to a big club like Chelsea.

For £85million, the Blues need to weigh up is he really worth it.

There’s no doubt he’s looking the real deal this season in England’s top flight, but he’s still very young and it’s a lot of money.
