Chelsea retain an interest in Dynamo Moscow playmaker Arsen Zakharyan, having seen a move break down in the summer. Russia international stays an exciting prospect for top teams. And the London giants are readying another effort to add Zakharyan.
Arsen is widely considered an exciting prospect in Europe. A move away from Dynamo Moscow could be on the cards in winter. The 19-year-old playmaker may have moved shores in the summer, but the sanctions on Russian footballers complicated his efforts to leave the team.
Amidst the ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine, FIFA sanctioned Russian football, which prevented certain footballers from joining foreign teams. It also resulted in Russia’s expulsion from the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.
Hence, Russian footballers are in limbo and figuring out a backdoor to get their favoured moves across the continent. The Russian playmaker is trying to get Armenian citizenship. He recently withdrew from a Russian national side call-up for a friendly through injury.
The Armenian FA have denied contact so far, which puts Arsen’s switch on hold. Zakharyan is hoping those sanctions cool down in the coming months, so he could make a favourable switch away from Dynamo Moscow. The Blues lodged an offer in the summer, but a move stalled due to the aforementioned blockages.
Adding a footballer like Zakharyan would further strengthen their future squad. There are other footballers on the Blues’ radar as well, and they will attempt to sign them in the next windows.
