Chelsea renewed talks with €80m-rated La Liga centre-back

Chelsea are looking to add Jose Gimenez in the upcoming transfer window. Atletico Madrid defender has been one of the best centre-backs in La Liga for a while now, and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for the London giants. The Blues lost footballers like Christensen and Rudiger ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

And they decided to bring in the likes of Fofana and Koulibaly. Both footballers are extremely talented, but Fofana’s injury has left the Blues with a shortage of options at the defence. Azpilicueta is not the footballer he used to be, and Silva is no spring chicken.

Koulibaly has been the only reliable defender for the Blues so far this campaign. Graham Potter needs to sort out his defensive problems soon if Chelsea are to have a good campaign. It stays to be seen whether Todd Boehly is willing to back the English coach in the transfer window in winter.

Uruguay international is in the prime of his career right now and will improve Chelsea significantly. Gimenez could partner Fofana and Chalobah at the heart of the Blues’ defence in the coming years. Koulibaly and Azpilicueta could be the backup options, with Silva nearing the end of his career.

There is unlikely to be a shortage of suitors for a footballer like the Uruguayan, and the Blues must look to act swiftly. Recent reports have linked Tottenham with the South American centre-back.
