Huge boost : £50m Chelsea Star player eyes return from injury against Southampton
Raheem Sterling has his eye on a return from injury this weekend to play in Chelsea’s game against Southampton.
The 28-year-old attacker reportedly wants to make his comeback after a stop-start 2023 so far.
He missed a string of matches in January because of a hamstring problem. Despite returning against Fulham at the start of this month, he’s since missed two more games against West Ham and Borussia Dortmund.
Graham Potter confirmed last week that the left-winger had a “little setback” with a kick to the side of his knee in training.
Hopefully, there’s a positive update from the Blues head coach in today’s press conference.
Raheem Sterling hope
According to the Daily Mail, Sterling is desperate to return from his latest injury break and is eyeing this Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Southampton as a potential date.
However, the report warns that Potter’s side won’t rush the England international back too early.
It feels like a must-win contest tomorrow when Chelsea host bottom of the league Southampton at Stamford Bridge.
The major concern going into it is that the Blues have only scored three goals in their last eight games across all competitions, which significantly highlights the problems at the top end of the pitch.
Sterling’s six goals in 23 games so far actually makes him the joint top scorer at Chelsea this season alongside Kai Havertz.
Described as “brilliant” by Kieran Trippier, Sterling is one of the few individuals in the Blues squad that has shown he can score consistently.
The wide man can definitely inject some goals into this struggling attack if he finds any kind of form.
Someone like Joao Felix has added serious star quality to the Blues line-up, but they’re not going to go anywhere if they don’t have someone clinical around the penalty box.
